Finally being able to start your eCommerce store (eComm) is probably incredibly exciting to you. We’re seeing numerous name brands closing their “brick-and-mortar” stores but new online alternatives pop-up incredibly fast!
So many individuals have tried starting up an eCommerce but failed, there are a couple of reasons, but don’t fall into the 80% that do. Here are some tips for gaining customer success:
Brand
Website Experience
Shipping
Engagement
Brand
Branding is the core of any online business, let’s use Manscaped for example, they’ve leveraged their brand to become one of the most influential “lawn-mowers” for your body.
Having a brand that is strongly connected to one element; whether manscaping, quality, luxury, etc… is extremely important to building a brand identity, this will help you create sales in the long run.
Having a well rounded brad will attract customers to remembering you as that “lawn-mower” for your respective niche.
Don’t forget, your brand must be able to deliver what you are offering as your core solution as a business.
Stick to one thing, make it your priority, master it.
Website Experience
Having a great website is obviously one of the most important aspects of an eComm store, it should be one of your main concerns as a beginner. But what people fail to consider is the actual Customer Journey on their website. How do you want your customer to navigate? How can you ease the navigation of your website?
Having these laid out and creating a process that allows your customer to easily and readily find your products will ultimately lead to the purchasing of whatever it is you choose to sell.
I’m not going to talk too much about this but I will list some of my favorite online stores and giving my reasons why; this should help provide some clarity as to why it is extremely important.
Good stores:
Very clean overall look, sticking to their white, black, and gold theme. Navigating is easy, the product I would most likely be looking for is the first thing shown on their page. Going back to having the One Element, this is an extremely good example of sticking to their core.
A very notable and personal favorite is Helm, the main focus is boots (and some high-quality dress shoes). You can’t lie, the images on their website are amazing, their products speak for itself when you go on their page. They list the 3 main things of focus to capture your attention and get you sold.
Just think about how you would shop on your own store. How would your customers see your store?
Put yourself in their shoes.
Shipping
This is and probably will be the most difficult cost to cut away from your profits, many companies will lose their customers simply due to a separate shipping cost.
While the ultimate goal is to provide free shipping to the end-consumer as a whole on any purchase, there will be those cases where stores would lose money if they did… because of this, stores provide free shipping if you are a member or spend over $x amount.
Here’s an article from 2014, written by Anna Kelger explaining the psychology behind “free”. In short;
We see something “free” and automatically overvalue it
Precisely why Amazon is where it is today!
Engagement
How are you planning to gain traction or connect with customers on a personal level? While ads work, it isn’t going to be effective after that ad has completed. As a Gen Z kiddo, I’ve obviously downloaded TikTok… (so sad it might be going away though) and the company I’ve seen most active on the platform is, Manscaped. With a whopping 117.4k followers, they’re able to engage their followers with ease.
Their advertisements and social media leverage keep customers not only satisfied with their product but also amused by their selling strategies (which I definitely recommend when building identity)
To grab the attention of their audience, Manscaped used a combination of strategic targeting and a bunch of creative video ads to get noticed. And it worked.
While the company used Shopify, the eCommerce platform for their below-the-belt men’s grooming products, it was their amusing and strategically released video ads that got their brand noticed by both men and women.
Learn how Manscaped beat their competition
I know that you guys may have seen Manscaped so many times in this article, but they have truly mastered the overall scope of customer success. They started on Shopify and grew (which I’m sure most of you will end up starting on anyways). They’ve grown to a proportionate scale to now use Analytics to their own benefit, see my article on how AI is boosting eCommerce stores.
With that being said. check us out Manscaped ?
